The introduction of the event manager apprenticeship occupation, which has existed since 2001, dates back to an intuitive of the bdv in the nineties. As a result, the BDKV was intensively involved in drafting the apprenticeship regulations, the curriculum and the examination regulations, which are evidently the hallmark of event experts.
Event manager is a 3-year recognized apprenticeship occupation in industry and commerce.
Event managers design and organize events and ensure they run smoothly. They calculate the costs and take over all commercial tasks around the planning, execution and follow-up of events.
According to the motto “educate better!” the Federal Association of the Concert and Event Industry (BDKV) is continuously working to optimize the training of event managers. The BDKV calls on all companies offering apprenticeships and event industry associations, as well as the vocational schools to work towards sustainably improving the current training situation in the apprenticeship occupation “event manager”.
“Unfortunately, both the company-based and school-based training quality has not developed as expected in all respects since the introduction of the apprenticeship occupation initiated by the bdv at the beginning of the last decade,” notes Prof. Jens Michow, managing director of the BDKV. While in vocational schools many teachers had only limited knowledge of event practice, in many companies, trainees would only be engaged as cheap labour. “We urgently need to do something to make sure the apprenticeship does not lose its appreciation in practice,” says Michow.
“By creating branch-specific training, we aimed to secure the future of both the industry and its employees. Under the present circumstances, this aim seems to be in danger”.
Nearly 100% of all German event companies from the concert and event sector belong to the BDKV’S member companies. They are the core field of the occupational profile. To improve the trainees’ situation, the organizers association offers an “emergency aid package” and a service catalogue to both the companies offering apprenticeships and the schools:
Companies that support the project “educate better!” in this manner receive a “BDKV quality seal” from the BDKV.
